Turkey brining
We at Homegrown Meats are “briners” and have found that brining is a great way to add flavor and moisture to turkey. Brining is actually quite simple and there are 2 simple ways to brine your turkey:

• If you can fit a 5 gallon bucket in your refrigerator this is the way to go (I always rearrange my fridge and take out a shelf). Just line the bucket with 2 food safe trash bags, one set inside each other (some people advise against using trash bags but with Weber's recommendation we've been using them for years). Place the turkey in the inner bag, pour in the brine, gather the plastic around the turkey so that it’s completely covered, and tie the bags shut. Place the bucket in the fridge and brine for up to 24 hours.
• If you can’t fit a 5 gallon bucket in your fridge then use a large cooler. Line the cooler with 2 trash bags, one set inside each other. Place the turkey in the inner bag, pour in the brine, gather the plastic around the turkey so that it’s completely covered, and tie the bags shut. Cover with ice, set outside, and brine for up to 24 hours.
At Homegrown Meats we have a wonderful turkey brine available from Coastal Goods for $7.99. This Cranberry and Sage brine is a premium blend of salt, sugar, black pepper, orange peel, cranberries, celery, sage, thyme, onions, and spice.
Below are the instructions for using the Coastal Goods Turkey & Poultry Brine:
• Pour BRINE TIME blend into a sturdy 2-gallon bucket or pot.
• Add 4 cups boiling water and stir to dissolve the salt then let cool to room temperature.
• Add 12 cups cold water (2 to 4 cups wine, juice, cider, or bourbon may replace part of the water).
• Add turkey and submerge completely in the brine, using a plate as a weight if necessary.
• Refrigerate or put in cooler packed with ice.
• Your turkey should brine for close to 24 hours. Remove turkey from brine (discard brine).
• Grill or roast the turkey until done and enjoy the juiciest turkey you've ever tasted!
