Bratwurst recipe



6 fresh Homegrown bratwursts
1 large yellow onion (sliced into 1/8 inch slices)
1 granny smith apple (cored, quartered & cut into 1/8 inch slices)
½ lb sauerkraut
12 ounces beer, preferably dark
3 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
1 teaspoon caraway seeds


In a heavy duty foil pan arrange brats in a single layer
Top brats with sliced onions, sliced apples and sauerkraut
In a medium bowl mix beer, mustard and caraway seeds
Add beer mixture to pan with brats
Grill over Direct Medium heat for about 20 minutes, turning brats 2 or 3 times
Remove brats from pan but keep pan over direct heat
Grill brats over Direct Medium heat until browned, 2 – 3 minutes, turning once
Put brats back in pan

Serving Tips:

Brats can sit in pan as long as you want, just keep pan over low heat to keep warm
Serve in hot dog buns and top with sauerkraut/onion/apple mixture
Top with more mustard
